Jan-L. (Jan Lainoff)
As a once-upon-a-time Speech-Language Pathologist, Jan Lainoff, (known as ‘Jan L.’) discovered art to be a wondrous communication bridge between her non-speaking clients and the speaking world. Jan used art to elicit participation, preferences & self-expression. Art supported an equal and active exchange of thoughts & feelings…without so much as one word being spoken!
Post-retirement, Jan-L., continues with art but for her own communication & joy. As an homage to her speech therapy past, her compositions frequently contain hidden & embedded words. There’s a decided preference for faces, figures and shadow shapes which are augmented with stylized mark-making & rhythmic brush strokes.
